Create and manage email accounts in cPanel

Reviewed on 3 min read email accounts

To use an address such as hola@ejemplo.com you need a mailbox on the service that receives the domain's email. This guide covers accounts hosted on our hosting. If you use Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or another provider, create the mailbox there.

Create the mailbox

  1. Open cPanel and go to Email Accounts.
  2. Click Create and choose the domain. If it does not appear, check that it has been added to this hosting.
  3. Type the part before the @. For example, hola to create hola@ejemplo.com.
  4. Set a unique password and save it in a password manager.
  5. Check the space allocated to the mailbox and confirm the creation.

The mailbox quota limits how much it can use within the hosting; raising it does not increase the total space you have ordered. If you cannot create the account, check the mailbox limit and the space available on the service.

Check that it works

Click Check Email next to the mailbox and log in to Roundcube. Send a message to an external account and reply from it. You should be able to see both the sent message and the reply you received.

Creating the account does not change the DNS records. If the reply does not arrive, check the domain's MX records and email routing before creating it again.

Manage an existing account

Find the full address in the list and open Manage.

Suspending is not the same as deleting the account. Before deleting a mailbox, keep the messages you need and check whether other people or applications are still using that address.

Set up Outlook, Thunderbird or a phone

Use the secure values from Connect Devices or the POP, IMAP and SMTP connection details. The username is the full email address and the password is the mailbox password, not your client area password.

We recommend IMAP if you will use several devices: it syncs the server's messages and folders. It also syncs deletions, so it is no substitute for a backup. SMTP is set up separately to send messages.

If automatic detection does not find the account, enter the service details manually. Do not turn off encryption or accept an incorrect certificate to complete the setup.

You can keep using webmail even if you also have the account in an app.
