Email connection details: IMAP, POP and SMTP
To set up an account hosted with Hostsuar you need the details of that mailbox. The username is the full email address and the password is the email password, which may be different from your cPanel or client area password.
Get your account's values
Go to cPanel > Email Accounts and use Connect Devices next to the address. Copy the SSL/TLS manual settings it shows: the server name must match its certificate. Do not assume it will always be mail. followed by the domain.
| Purpose | Protocol | Usual secure port |
|---|---|---|
| Receive and sync folders | IMAP | 993, SSL/TLS |
| Download email | POP3 | 995, SSL/TLS |
| Send messages | Authenticated SMTP | 465, SSL/TLS |
If your account's settings offer SMTP 587 with STARTTLS, use that combination. Port and encryption type must match: do not select implicit SSL/TLS for a STARTTLS port.
Enter the full address and the password for SMTP too, even if the app shows those fields as optional. Leave the IMAP path prefix empty unless you have been given a specific value for your account.
Choose the protocol and check the connection
IMAP is usually the better fit when you read the same mailbox from several devices. Before replacing an existing POP account, read the differences between POP and IMAP and keep any messages stored only on the computer.
After saving, check receiving and sending separately with another of your own accounts. Also check that Sent and Trash appear in webmail. Being able to receive does not prove that SMTP is set up correctly.
If a certificate warning appears, check the server you copied and the device's date; do not turn off encryption to carry on. If the credentials work in webmail but not in the app, check the username, password, ports and authentication for incoming and outgoing mail.
These details are for email hosted here. If your domain receives mail at Microsoft 365 or another provider, use their settings. IMAP does not sync your calendar: for that, see calendars and contacts.
