Set up an IMAP account in Mail for Mac
You can read your Hostsuar email in Mail, the macOS app. Before you start, check that you can log in to the mailbox in webmail and get the SSL/TLS connection details.
Add the account
- Open Mail > Add Account and choose Other Mail Account.
- Enter the name your recipients will see, the full email address and the mailbox password.
- If Mail needs manual setup, select IMAP and enter the full address as the username, together with the incoming and outgoing servers given for your account.
- Finish the assistant and leave Mail turned on for that account.
If you already have a POP account with local messages, keep that archive before replacing it. Follow how to move from POP to IMAP.
Check the servers
In Mail > Settings > Accounts, select the mailbox and open Server Settings. In earlier versions, the menu is called Preferences.
Mail can manage the connection automatically. If you need to enter the values manually, turn off that automatic management in the relevant section and copy your account's values: IMAP 993 with TLS/SSL and SMTP 465 with TLS/SSL, or 587 with STARTTLS where indicated. Set up authentication and the full address for SMTP too.
Apple's help on server settings details the options shown for each account type.
Confirm it works
Send a message to another of your own accounts and reply from it. Check both messages in Mail and in webmail, including the Sent folder. If a folder only appears under On My Mac, its contents are local.
If you can receive but not send, check the SMTP server assigned to this mailbox and its password; Mail may have several servers saved. If a certificate warning appears, check the hostname and do not allow an insecure connection to get past it. After changing the mailbox password, update it for both incoming and outgoing mail.
