Domains and DNS
Transfer .es, .com.es, .nom.es and .org.es domains
.es, .com.es, .nom.es and .org.es domains use the Red.es procedure. To transfer them you need the authorisation code from the current provider and to accept the request from the administrative contact's email.
If you don't yet know which procedure applies to your extension, start with the general guide to transferring a domain to Hostsuar.
The transfer changes who manages the domain, but it doesn't move the website or email and doesn't change the DNS automatically.
Before you start
Check:
- That the domain is active.
- That you can access the administrative contact's email and know their identifier at Red.es (or can recover their password).
- That the previous provider will keep the hosting and DNS zone active during the process.
- That you have the current authorisation code.
The Red.es authorisation code is valid for 10 days from when it's generated or until it's used, whichever comes first. If it has expired, request a new one from the current registrar.
Start the transfer
Request the transfer from our domain transfer form or from the client area: the Transfer button in the Domains section, or the Transfer tab in Order → Domain.
Enter the domain and the authorisation code only in the secure form. Don't paste the code into an email or ticket.
Confirm the Red.es email
After starting the process you'll receive a message titled Red.es. Confirmación transferencia at the address listed as the administrative contact.
Open the link Acepte o cancele la solicitud de Transferencia de dominio (Accept or cancel the domain transfer request). Red.es asks you to log in to dominios.es with the administrative contact's (PCA) identifier and password before authorising the transfer, and may also ask for a code it sends to that same email. If the PCA neither accepts nor cancels, the system cancels the request automatically after 10 days. This response period is separate from the validity of the Auth-code.
While a registrar manages the domain, that Red.es account isn't used, so it's normal not to have the password:
- The administrative contact's identifier appears on the domain's public record at dominios.es: search for the domain and click Ver datos (View details). If you can't find it, ask us from the client area and we'll tell you.
- Request a new password with that identifier on the Red.es recovery page. The link to create it is sent to the administrative contact's email.
- Go back to the link in the confirmation email, log in and accept the transfer.
If you don't receive the message:
- Check your spam folder.
- Check which address is listed as the administrative contact.
- Confirm that the code hasn't expired.
- Check that no other request is in progress.
How long it takes
Once the request is accepted, the domain is usually available in our systems within a few hours. You'll receive a notification when it completes.
Website, email and DNS during the transfer
The domain keeps using the nameservers it had configured. However, some providers remove the zone or the hosting when they stop managing the domain.
If you are also migrating the hosting, copy and check the content first and plan the DNS change with minimal downtime.
If the code is rejected
Request a new one from the current provider and make sure you use the latest one generated, without extra spaces. See what the Auth-code is and why it may be incorrect.
Check the date and management when it finishes
Check the expiry date and the renewal settings. Red.es doesn't add time for the transfer itself: when a transfer to Hostsuar completes, we renew the domain for the period ordered in the transaction.
If the transfer only changes the agent, the registrant on record stays the same. To change the registrant too, use the Red.es ownership transfer procedure.
The code and acceptance periods are set out in the Red.es documentation on transfers and its SGND manual.
