PrestaShop: switch to Spanish in older interfaces

Reviewed on 2 min read idiomas prestashop

This reference covers older interfaces that show Localization as a main menu. For menus with International / Internacional, use the shop and back office language guide.

Shop public language

  1. Open Localization and check whether Spanish is already installed and enabled.
  2. If it is missing, select Spain in Localization pack you want to import.
  3. Tick the language you need. Do not import taxes, currencies or other data just to translate the interface.
  4. After importing, select Spanish in Default language and save.
  5. Check the shop from a fresh session and review the language selector.

The change does not automatically translate names or descriptions of products, pages, themes and modules. Review each piece of content and its available translations.

Your administrator user's language

Click the username in the top corner and go to My preferences. Change Language to Spanish and save. If the interface keeps the previous language, log out and log in again.

Each employee can have their own preference. Changing the shop's default language does not force every back office user to use it.

Maintaining an old shop

Keep a backup before importing packs or changing the configuration. If the branch is no longer supported, prepare its upgrade on a clone; installing translations does not fix security or compatibility problems.

Do not delete a language that has pages with visits or links without reviewing their destinations. Keeping this guide's URL helps identify the old menus, without recommending that version for a new project.
