Difference between a shared IP and a dedicated IP
An IP address identifies a network destination. Several domains can reach the same IP and show different websites because the server recognises the name requested.
Shared IP
This is the usual setup on our plans: several accounts can use the same server IP. Each one keeps its own domains and configuration. Sharing an IP doesn't mean sharing passwords or showing another account's files.
HTTPS certificates work with a shared IP thanks to SNI. You don't need to order a dedicated IP just to enable SSL.
Dedicated IP
A dedicated IP is assigned exclusively to one hosting account. It may be necessary when an integration requires that exclusivity, but it's worth confirming first which address that integration's traffic actually uses.
The website's incoming IP doesn't tell you what the outgoing IP of a process will be, or that of the server sending the email. If you need to authorise an address in an external system, tell us the service and the direction of the connection before you order.
When to order one
A dedicated IP doesn't by itself improve speed, search ranking, security or email deliverability. If there's a specific technical requirement, see how to request one.
On standard hosting it's assigned to that account; on a multi-account plan you must select the account it's for. Review the cost and the implications of the IP change for DNS and external systems.
