Does using a shared IP or hosting environment affect SEO rankings?
Sharing an IP does not, on its own, harm a website's rankings. Ordering a dedicated IP is not an automatic SEO improvement. It is worth keeping this question separate from real availability, performance or email delivery problems.
What sharing an IP means
A server or a CDN network can serve several websites from the same address. The requested name identifies which site should respond. A dedicated IP does not prove that a website has an exclusive physical server either.
As a historical reference, Matt Cutts clarified in 2006 that there was no PageRank difference between using virtual hosting and a dedicated IP. This does not prove that it used to be a positive factor or that Google stopped using it in exactly 2003.
What to check if you lose visibility
Review the affected URLs, their HTTP responses, indexability, canonical and content. If Google cannot access them because of server errors or extreme slowness, investigate those causes with dates and logs; changing the IP without a diagnosis will not necessarily fix them.
Also check content changes, internal links, redirects and search demand. A drop in clicks does not allow you to blame other websites that share the IP.
Website and email reputation are different things
An email blocklist can affect messages sent from an IP, but it does not show a ranking penalty for the website. The outgoing SMTP IP may be different from the site's public IP.
Likewise, a malware warning on your domain requires investigating the content and security. A new IP does not remove compromised files or replace a review of the incident.
When to consider a dedicated IP
A dedicated IP may meet a specific technical requirement. Before ordering one, confirm which connection needs it and whether it will actually use that address. Do not choose it to hide relationships between websites or expecting it to improve rankings on its own.
