Add a safe sender in SpamAssassin

Reviewed on 2 min read anti-spam sender lists

When the antispam system repeatedly classifies legitimate messages from a specific sender as spam, the safe senders list lets you lower their score. It does not guarantee delivery or prevent rejections that happen before filtering.

Open cPanel, Spam Filters section. At the bottom, just below Additional Configurations (For Advanced Users):, click Show Additional Configurations.

Find Edit Spam Whitelist Settings and then Add A New “whitelist_from” Item to include an exact address in the safe list.

The field accepts an asterisk as a wildcard, but avoid broad entries such as *@dominio.com: whitelist_from relies on sender fields that can be forged, and an attacker could take advantage of the lower score. Add only the exact address you have checked. If you need to rely on authentication or alignment, a list based only on From is not the right control.

Finally, click Update Whitelist to save the changes to the whitelist.

Check that the exception solves the problem

Before adding it, confirm that the message arrived and was classified as spam. If it was rejected over SMTP, held in BoxTrapper or never reached the server, this list does not fix that cause on its own.

Note the address and the reason for the exception. After saving, check a new message from that sender and its score; the change does not automatically move earlier messages from Spam back to the inbox.

Also check the account filters and the global filters if the message keeps being moved. If the exception is no longer needed, remove it from the same list. To adjust the general classification, see Spam Filters and their thresholds.
