Why cPanel removed Horde and replaced it with Roundcube

Reviewed on 2 min read webmail horde roundcube

cPanel removed Horde in version 108 because it depended on PHP 7.4, which reached end of support on 28 November 2022. Webmail moved to Roundcube so it could carry on running on a maintained base.

For that reason cPanel included it in its feature deprecation plan and kept Roundcube as the available webmail client.

Messages did not depend on Horde and stayed in the same mailboxes. During the transition cPanel migrated compatible calendars and contacts stored in Horde to Roundcube; if you are looking for historical information that does not appear, tell us the account and the type of data so we can check what has been kept.

To delete messages and free up quota in the current webmail, see how to permanently delete emails in Roundcube.

If you used to use Horde

Sign in to webmail and open Roundcube to see the messages on the server. Your email address and password do not change because you use a different webmail application. You can also keep using an IMAP client you have already set up.

Check messages, contacts and calendars separately. A calendar exported to a computer, or data that could not be migrated, will not necessarily appear alongside your messages. To set up your current calendar, follow calendars and contacts with CalDAV and CardDAV.

Do not install an old copy of Horde to get its look back. If you are missing historical information, give us the account, the type of data and an approximate date so we can review the options available; removing an interface does not by itself prove that the data has been deleted, nor does it guarantee that a recoverable copy exists.
