Track Delivery: find an email and understand its status

Reviewed on 2 min read diagnostico de correo entregabilidad

cPanel's Track Delivery (shown as Seguimiento de entrega or Monitorizar envío in the Spanish interface) lets you look up the available log of sent and received messages. It is for investigating a specific email; it does not show which folder the recipient then put it in.

Find the message

  1. Sign in to cPanel and open Track Delivery.
  2. Enter the recipient's address and run the report.
  3. Find the right date and sender. Also check the filters so you do not hide failed or deferred deliveries.
  4. Open the information icon to see the details and the result.

The report only keeps the period configured on the server. If an old message is missing, that does not prove it was never processed. If there are several retries, use the message ID to tell them apart from separate sends.

Read the result

Status shown What it means and what to do
Delivered or accepted The next destination accepted it; check spam, filters or rules if the user cannot find it
Deferred Delivery will be retried according to the queue; keep the reason before retrying manually
Rejected or failed Read the full code and text: they may point to the recipient, quota, authentication or reputation
Filtered or discarded Check the rule that produced the result; it does not mean delivery to the mailbox

The meaning also depends on the destination: a local delivery, a forwarder and acceptance by an external server are different stages.

What to keep when asking for help

Give the sender, recipient, date with time zone, message ID and the full error. A subject on its own can match several messages. Do not send passwords or publish the full log of other recipients.

If a recent incoming message does not appear, check that the domain has the correct MX records and routing. The message may have gone to another provider or never reached this server.

To review the overall configuration use Delivery and certificates; to analyse a rejection or spam, carry on with the deliverability guide.
