Review outgoing messages held by the spam filter
Just as incoming email is scanned to block unwanted mail, known as spam, outgoing email, sent from the hosting service's email accounts, applications or forwarders, is also scanned for this kind of mail and possible abuse.
This scanning reduces abuse and reputational risk. For example, it can hold back some of the bulk email generated after a website or account has been compromised. It does not guarantee that every message will be detected or blocked, and it does not stop messages already accepted by other servers from affecting the reputation of the domain or the outgoing IP address.
Although the spam filter is configured to keep false positives to a minimum, mistakes can happen. To keep proper control, you can check the sent messages held by the spam filter from the cPanel section Imunify360, Email tab. There you can see a list of messages classified as spam, view the content of each one, delete them or release a message so that delivery is attempted again. Releasing it does not guarantee that the recipient's server will accept it.
The quarantine is not a permanent archive: its retention, capacity and release limits depend on the server configuration. Review messages as soon as possible and do not use this section as a backup. Before releasing several messages, confirm that the account or application has not been compromised; releasing malicious messages can harm the reputation of the domain and the server.
Review a held message
- Identify the message by date, sender and recipient, without relying on the subject alone.
- Open its details and check whether it was generated by a person, a form, an application or a forwarder.
- If you recognise the content and the recipient, check the reason it was classified before releasing that sample.
- Then check delivery tracking to see what the destination replied.
If you do not recognise the messages, review the source account or application before releasing anything. If a message has already gone out another way, do not send it again as a duplicate. A message not being in this quarantine does not prove it reached the recipient.
If the tab does not appear in your account or does not allow the action, contact support giving the message details and the error. Do not use the quarantine as a complete log of all the email sent.
