cPanel Password & Security: what it changes and where to do it
Password & Security is the cPanel option for changing its main password. It is not the client area password, nor the password of each mailbox or WordPress user.
Choose the route you need
- You want to change it and have access to the client area: open the hosting, go to Login details and follow how to change the main password.
- You have forgotten it or direct login fails: use recover access to cPanel.
- You are already in cPanel and know the current one: open Password & Security, enter the current password and the new one, and confirm the change.
Replacing the password affects connections that use the hosting's main user. Check FTP and SSH when they are enabled, and any tasks that use that credential; it does not replace authorised SSH keys or change separate accounts.
After the change
Save the new password in a password manager and test a new connection. If another application keeps trying the old one, update its configuration to avoid repeated attempts.
If something fails, check automatic login from the client area and the password shown in the panel separately. Do not keep changing the password on the assumption that every error is a sync problem: there may also be a block, an expired session or a connection problem.
