JetBackup for WordPress: restore provider backups from WordPress
JetBackup for WordPress lets you view and restore the provider's backups from WordPress when its JetBackup integration is available. If you cannot log in to the WordPress admin area, use recovery from the client area.
Tell the two kinds of backup apart
The plugin can manage the installation's own backups and access the backups created by JetBackup on the server. They are different sources: creating a backup from WordPress does not create a new on-demand point in the provider's system.
The integration for viewing and restoring JetBackup 5 backups is available free of charge. Scheduling, destinations and other plugin features depend on the version and licence you use; check their terms before paying for extras.
Install and connect
- In WordPress, open Plugins > Add New and search for the official JetBackup for WordPress plugin by JetApps.
- Install and activate it.
- Open JetBackup > Settings > General and turn on JetBackup Server Integration.
- Save the changes and go to JetBackup > Backups to check the available backups.
The integration must also be enabled for the account on the server. If no points appear, check that they exist in JetBackup from cPanel and contact support; it does not necessarily mean they have been lost.
Choose what to recover
Identify the provider backup and check its date, time and components. Before restoring, keep a backup of the current state and coordinate writes to the website. In a shop, confirm which orders placed after the backup could be lost.
To recover the full state of an installation, select matching files and database from the same point. Recovering only part of it can leave the code and the data on different versions. The application's external resources do not automatically go back to that date.
Start and follow the restore
Open the Restore action, review the components and confirm adding it to the queue. Follow progress from Queue, without starting another restore while the first one is running.
How long it takes depends on the size and the system load. Wait for the final status and check any warnings before treating the operation as finished. If you cancel a task, do not assume the previous state has been put back: some components may already have been changed.
Check WordPress
Test the home page, an inner page, the admin area, images, users and the content you wanted to recover. Also check forms, tasks and integrations using their test modes where applicable.
If the result is not right, keep the error and ask for help deciding how to recover the previous backup. Do not run one full restore after another blindly, or reopen the shop to new writes while you decide how to keep its data.
Your own backups and other recoveries
You can use the plugin features included in your licence to create, download or move your own backups. Check which components each backup includes and whether the format suits the intended destination; a WordPress backup does not include every mailbox, DNS or cPanel account setting.
To recover email, settings or resources outside this installation, use JetBackup from cPanel.
