PHP versions available on all hosting services
Hostsuar offers several PHP branches for current and legacy applications. You can see the ones you can apply to your service in Hosting > PHP, when you change a website's version, or in cPanel's Select PHP Version.
The documented catalogue includes these branches, subject to their availability on the server:
- PHP 5.2
- PHP 5.3
- PHP 5.4
- PHP 5.5
- PHP 5.6
- PHP 7.0
- PHP 7.1
- PHP 7.2
- PHP 7.3
- PHP 7.4
- PHP 8.0
- PHP 8.1
- PHP 8.2
- PHP 8.3
- PHP 8.4
- PHP 8.5
The list is updated when CloudLinux adds a new branch. Older branches remain available for the applications that need them, and we have no plans to withdraw them.
All versions work and receive patches
CloudLinux maintains its own PHP branches with HardenedPHP and applies security fixes to them, including those the PHP project no longer releases fixes for. That is why any version on the list works and is patched. See the scope of HardenedPHP.
HardenedPHP fixes the interpreter, not your application: it does not update WordPress, its plugins, the framework or Composer libraries. Keep your software up to date.
Which version to choose
What decides the version is your application. On each website's page, in Hosting > PHP, you see the range of versions its application declares when we recognise it, and the recommended one: the best-performing version within that range. Newer versions are usually faster, and more and more plugins and themes are dropping support for older ones.
Before changing, keep a backup and review your application's requirements. Afterwards, check the website, the admin area, forms, scheduled tasks and error logs.
If the website depends on an old branch, you can keep it with no problem while you prepare the upgrade on a test copy. To change the version with a compatibility study, checks and rollback, follow Change a website's PHP version.
To change a version's extensions or limits, use the Extensions and Limits tabs on the website's page, or the PHP version, modules and configuration section in cPanel.
