Troubleshooting

Fix the "Uncaught ReflectionException Method get_site_editor_type does not exist" error

Reviewed on 2 min read wordpress errores

If the PHP log shows a fatal error related to get_site_editor_type() and an Elementor file, keep the full message and the trace. They show where the request was interrupted, but on their own they do not prove which update caused the incompatibility.

  1. Make a backup and note the installed versions of WordPress, PHP, Elementor and Elementor Pro.
  2. Check whether the first fatal error of the request points to Elementor Pro, Elementor or a third-party add-on.
  3. Update Elementor and Elementor Pro to versions that are compatible with each other. Similar version numbers are not enough: check the vendor's requirements and release notes.
  4. If the log points to an Elementor add-on, update it or run a controlled test without that add-on.
  5. Repeat the same action and confirm the error is no longer generated.

Do not edit theme-document.php or add checks inside Elementor Pro. Those changes are lost on update and can hide an incompatibility without fixing it.

If you cannot access the dashboard

Use WordPress recovery mode. If it is not available, temporarily rename only the folder of the component the error identifies, log in to the dashboard and update the components. If the update installs a new folder with the original name, do not put the old copy back on top of it. Keep that copy outside the public root for as long as you need it and check both the editor and the public site with the installed version.

If the error persists with compatible versions and no third-party add-ons, give Elementor support the full message, the trace and the installed versions.

The method name corresponds to a specific incompatibility, but it does not identify a single pair of versions for every case. If you keep an old plugin for compatibility, prepare its replacement or update on staging; a patch inside Elementor is not a maintenance strategy.
