AccelerateWP: features, availability and configuration
AccelerateWP brings together CloudLinux tools to optimise WordPress from cPanel and from a plugin on the website itself. It can show SmartAdvice recommendations based on observed activity. Seeing No advice does not mean the website is perfect, nor that you should turn on every option.
Start with a single caching solution
On our servers you can use LiteSpeed Cache, integrated with LiteSpeed. AccelerateWP is an alternative if its features and automation suit your installation.
Before trying it, keep a recoverable backup and note the current caching plugin's configuration. Do not keep two page caching systems active at the same time. If cPanel warns of an incompatibility, resolve it before continuing; do not force the installation.
Activate it from cPanel
- Open AccelerateWP and find the WordPress installation by its domain and path.
- Review the available recommendations and any outstanding requirements.
- Open the installation's options —usually through the gear icon— and turn on the feature you want to try.
- Wait for the operation to finish and open WordPress to review the installed plugin's settings.
- Check the website as a visitor and as a logged-in user before making another change.
Availability depends on the licence, the server configuration and the installation's compatibility. If the tool or the feature does not appear, give support the domain and the message you see. The current requirements are published in the CloudLinux user documentation.
Which settings to review
| Feature | What it is for | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Page cache | Reusing generated pages | Exclusions for cart, checkout and personalised content |
| File optimisation | Minifying or deferring CSS and JavaScript | Layout, menus, forms and consent after each setting |
| Media | Lazy loading of images and other media | That the main image is not delayed and there are no layout shifts |
| Preload | Preparing the cache before visits | Hosting usage and generation rate |
| Advanced rules | Excluding pages or behaviours | That the exclusions match the real paths |
| Database | Removing selected data | A prior backup and the scope of each deletion |
| Heartbeat | Adjusting WordPress's periodic communications | Editing, post locking and features that depend on them |
Do not combine or defer all JavaScript at once. Save one change, test and compare. Database clean-up deletes information and is not reversed simply by deactivating the plugin.
Premium and object cache
The client area does not currently offer AccelerateWP Premium for order. If your installation shows Premium features enabled, their availability depends on the server's licence and configuration; check the conditions before using them.
The features it can offer include critical CSS, image optimisation and object cache. Do not assume they are all included, or that image optimisation always keeps the original quality: review the selected mode.
For object caching you also have Redis from the Package manager. Choose a single object cache integration per WordPress and measure its effect. Redis benefits the data the application stores through a compatible API; it does not automatically speed up every query.
CDN
If the panel offers Content Delivery Network, review the quota, usage and activation conditions. SmartAdvice and the features enabled on the server may affect its availability. Integrating an external CDN and the AccelerateWP CDN service are different options.
Once it is active, check in the browser that the intended resources are served over HTTPS from the CDN and that no errors appear. Review how to purge modified files and what happens when the quota runs out. Do not change DNS or paths manually to force a feature the panel does not offer.
Measure and roll back
Compare the same pages before and after, with several repetitions and similar conditions. Include a public page, an admin operation and, on a shop, cart and checkout in test mode.
If something fails, revert the last setting and purge the relevant cache. To switch solutions, follow the AccelerateWP deactivation and check that its integrations have been removed before activating another. Keep the initial backup for changes that have modified files or data.
