Apache handlers
Apache Handlers associate file extensions with a way of processing them on the server. The cPanel tool lets you use existing handlers; it does not install a language or create a new handler.
When it makes sense
Use it when the application needs a specific association and you know the server supports that handler. The tool's name does not mean that any instruction from an external Apache server will work the same way on this hosting.
To change PHP, use version and module management instead of adding old rules copied from another provider. To correct the type the browser receives, see MIME types.
Add and check an association
In cPanel > Apache Handlers, enter the compatible handler and the extensions it should process. Note down the previous associations and keep a copy of .htaccess if you are going to edit it.
Test with a development file that contains no private data. Check that the server processes it as you expect: a wrong configuration can cause errors or serve the content without running it.
To revert, remove only the association you added and repeat the test. System associations cannot be removed from this interface. If you do not know the right handler, give support the application's requirement before changing an extension the site uses.
